What to see in Oujda?

The Medina: The medina remains the historical heart of the city. It is clearly delimited by its ramparts, and access is often through the Bab Sidi Abdelouahab or Bab El Gharbi, two of the oldest gates. Most of the historical sites to visit are located inside the medina. It is also a place where you can find souvenirs and get lost in its alleys. The Grand Mosque: Jamaa Al Kebir, the Grand Mosque, is the oldest monument in the medina and the largest mosque in Oujda. It is located behind the ramparts and the imposing gate of Sidi Abdelouahab. It was built by the Merinid Sultan Abu Yaâcoub Youssef at the end of the 13th century, in 1298. Its minaret, 24 meters high, was erected a little later, in 1317. It is a beautiful representation of Arab-Andalusian architecture with finely carved woodwork and mosaic tiles. Outside, don't miss the three fountains with colorful faience tiles, predominantly blue, topped with a green glazed tile roof. The Merinid Medersa: This Quranic school, located not far from Jamaa Al Kebir, dates back to the 14th century and is still in use seven centuries after its construction. Even today, students come to learn the Quran, just like in the past. It remains an example of Merinid art. Dar Sebti House: This residence is a true little palace built in the 1930s by Abdellatif Sebti, a wealthy merchant from Fes. He offered it to the city, and it was transformed into a center for the study and research of gharnati music. Various cultural activities and festivities are also held there. It is located opposite the Lalla Meriem Park. Saint-Louis d’Anjou Church: Oujda has a large church. Its imposing architecture has earned it the name of a cathedral, although it does not have that function. Built from 1908, the Saint-Louis d’Anjou Church is a testimony to the mix of cultures that was long present in Oujda. It is still in use today.
